2007 into 2008

The City of Oxford Orchestra was founded in 1965 with a firm commitment to provide live, classical music of the highest quality to the widest possible audience.  The Orchestra has played to acclaim in most of the capital cities of Europe whilst also providing all-year-round concerts in Oxford's beautiful, historical buildings, in particular, Sir Christopher Wren's stunning Sheldonian Theatre.

Its summer festival of Baroque Music has become a magnet for tourists from all over the world, and its Christmas Concerto by Candlelight  is a highlight of the musical year.

Oxford has produced an immense number of talented musicians, many of whom have become internationally famous.  COO has adopted a deliberate policy of choosing many of its solo artists from this pool and of using these same people in its education workshops. They provide wonderful rôle models for aspiring young musicians, and are a source of pride to our local audience.
